Writing Task 5
Dr Raj, our vet, was so impressed with the work of the Ugandan Gorilla Sanctuary
that he has volunteered to go out there for one month to work with injured gorillas in
the clinic.
Pete has decided to give one of his staff the opportunity to go with Dr Raj and work
as his assistant. He will pay all expenses.
The Opportunity of a Lifetime!
Dr Raj Shah has volunteered to work in the Ugandan Mountain Gorilla Sanctuary
for three weeks in October. He will treat injured gorillas in the sanctuary’s
clinic.
We are looking for an assistant to work with Dr Raj. Tasks will include helping to
care for the sick animals and taking photographs of the sanctuary for our
newsletter.
If you are not afraid of hard work and would like to join Dr Raj, write a letter
explaining why you should be chosen.
In return for your hard work, all
expenses will be paid. It really is the
opportunity of a lifetime!
Letters should be addressed to:
Pete Writer, Pete’s Pets, 1 Hill Street, Newton, NT6 4TP

gorilla sanctuary with Dr Raj.
Don’t forget to:

start the letter with an introduction (explain why you are writing)
say why you would like to be Dr Raj’s assistant on the trip

write about any experience you may have had in caring for animals or taking
photographs
end the letter correctly
proofread carefully.
When you have finished your letter, fill in the self-assessment chart for this
task at the back of the booklet. This time you can focus on how well you used
the PLANNING TOOL.
