Writing Task 2
Harry King’s book signing event has given Pete an idea.
Let’s have an animal story writing competition for the
readers of our newsletter.
To introduce the competition, Pete wants you to write a sample story to show the
reader what to do.
Below, Pete has noted some ideas to help you but you can use an idea of your own if
you wish.
Story Idea 1:
A story written as if the animal is telling the tale.
Examples:
An exciting day in the life of a police dog.
A dog scares away a thief trying to steal an old lady’s handbag. The old lady
thanks the dog by saying she will grant him special powers for one day.
Story Idea 3:
Story Idea 2: A story about a pet.
A scary story about an animal.
Examples: Examples:
A dangerous animal escapes from a a missing pet
an unusual pet.
zoo.
A family are camping when they hear
a strange noise ... there is a bear
outside their tent! ... or use an idea of your own!
Make a plan before you start (see the hints for planning a story on page 9 of
the Writing Toolbox Instruction Manual).
Make your writing interesting by using the decorating tool (e.g. use ‘WOW’
words to add interest).
Don’t forget to proofread your work and correct any errors.
Adding speech to your story (dialogue) can bring a scene to life but
make sure that you start a new paragraph each time a new
character speaks. Oh ... and don’t forget to use speech marks!
When you have finished your story, fill in the self-assessment chart for this
task at the back of the booklet. This time you can focus on how well you used
the PARAGRAPH TOOL.
