Writing Task 1
On July 24th, Harry King, the star of the popular TV series “Amazing Animals” visited
the store to sign copies of his latest book. He also brought along his favourite pet

snake, a huge python called Jimmy. Unfortunately, the snake escaped from its box
and went missing. As you can imagine, it caused quite a stir!

Pete wants you to write an article about this for the local newspaper. He would like
you to use the title “Python Panic at Pete’s Pets!”

He suggests you may include the following:
 information about Harry King
 how the snake was found
 comments from people at the event
 background information about the event (date, what Harry and the python
were doing there, etc.)
 a description of what happened at the event
 some facts about pythons.

Remember to make a plan before starting to write the article. Think about:
 how you will start the article
 the order of information in the main section
 how you will end the article.

On the next page, Pete has gathered additional information to help you.

Take care with punctuation. For example,
remember to use speech marks if you’re writing
what someone has said.
Oh ... and don’t forget to proofread your work.
