TARGET 16B - RANGE

Lowest Point

The range is the difference between the highest and lowest numbers.
To find the range, subtract the lowest number from the highest number.

Example 1 Find the range of the following set of numbers

3, 1, 2, 6, 8, 4

The highest number is 8 The lowest number is 1

So the range is 8 – 1 = 7

Example 2 Sam’s hockey team scored the following goals in

each of their matches. What is the range of the scores?

3, 2, 5, 1, 0, 6, 0, 1

The highest number of goals they scored was 6.
The lowest number of goals they scored was 0.

The difference between the highest and the lowest is 6 – 0 = 6
