The median is the middle value after you have put the data in order
of size.

(Always check that you have the same number of entries as you started
with after you have rearranged them.)

Example 1 Find the median of: 4, 2, 3, 4, 3, 6, 1

Put the data in order of size…

1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 6 (3 numbers each side)

Median = 3

Example 2 Find the median of: 2, 10, 6, 1,

Put the data in order of size…

1, 2, 6, 10 (2 numbers each side)

The median is half way between 2 and 6…

2 + 6 = 8 8 divided by 2 = 4 Median = 4
