a) ‘WOW’ Words
Looking for a nice place to visit on a nice day? It
is a nice idea to take your family to the zoo. Our
local zoo is nice. It is famous for its nice penguin Zzzz! This is boring!
We REALLY need to
pool which looks like an iceberg. It also has a nice make this report
collection of snakes. To make the day perfect, more interesting for
the cafe sells nice burgers! our newsletter.
Each time the word ‘nice’ is used, think of a WOW word to use instead.

Read the passage below and look out for the emotive words (emotional) words used
to get the sympathy of the reader. Also, can you spot a rhetorical question?
Two weeks ago, one of our customers brought in a dog that had been
found cruelly abandoned in the shopping centre. It was such a sad and
heartless thing to do. Why can’t people look after their pets properly?
Dr Raj Shah (our vet) took the poor, neglected dog to the local animal
rescue centre and today we had wonderful news - the centre has found a
caring, new home for the dog!
