Target 3: Commas

Task 3: Find your own evidence

Find in your written work, from any subject, a sample of writing (not copied from a
text) where you have used commas correctly.

Teacher’s comment on work sample:

,

When you are writing, try to make your sentences more interesting by using commas to

add extra information. This will improve the quality of your work and improve your mark
or grade.

It is always a good idea to write a rough draft first and then you can read it through to
see if you can add more detail before writing the final version.

Summary
Commas are used to separate things. They

separate:
 items in a list

 parts of a sentence.

Commas make sentences clearer and easier
to read. When you are reading text aloud,

NOTE! make sure you pause when you reach a
comma. This will make it easier for
listeners to follow the text. It will also
improve the quality of your reading.
