Some percentages which we use often, are easily remembered as
fractions, e.g.
50% = 1 75% = 3 10% = 1 100% = 1 75% = 3 1% = 1

Example 1:
Sally has 14 sweets. She eats 50% of them.
How many does she eat?
50% of 14 is the same as 1 of 14.

So the answer is 7.
Example 2:
A class has 24 students in it. 25% of the class are absent today.
How many students are absent?
Remember: 25% = 1 25% of 24 = 1 of 24 = 6
